I like to take the family up to cairns during the winter time to get away from the cold and head north into the sunny summer sun. Down south it goes right down to zero or less which is pretty cold so I like to escape by flying up to Cairns and spending a few weeks of winter in the 20 to 30 degree cool winter weather of northern Queensland. There is a lot to do in Cairns and around the top end of Oz. But for this vacation I decided to take the kids snorkeling. We hire a car to travel around because the city is quite large and spread out. You need a car to travel from one end to the other without having to rely on the none existent public transport.

So I booked a chartered boat to take us out on a day cruise to see the Great Barrier Reef where we went snorkeling and swimming and at fresh fish for lunch. It was a great site to see the marvel that is the Great Barrier Reef; it stretches a few kilometers in length and is full of thousands of sea creatures and different marine life. We swam over coral sharks which are not very aggressive unless provoked and then we took the boat out past the boundary of what is known as the Great Barrier Reef marine reserve and we went fishing for more fish to have for dinner.

After the cruise we travel back to our resort in the little sedan we hired from car hire Cairns airport and relax for a while. When the holiday is over I can return the car to the people at the airport and then we fly home after a great trip away.
